WoodEX for Africa set for a full house

WoodEX for Africa, the only trade show in Africa dedicated exclusively to the timber and allied trades, is preparing to host a bumper edition show from 11-13 July 2018 at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg, due not only to near-full bookings, but its incorporation of the Deck & Flooring Expo’s inaugural event.

WoodEX for Africa Organiser, Stephan Jooste, remarks, “We are delighted to report an upsurge in exhibitor bookings for the 2018 event and look forward to hosting a full house over the three-day event that promises visitors and exhibitors a unique stage for gaining insights, conducting business and making new contacts afore a backdrop of state-of-the-art timber- and woodworking-related equipment, machinery, tooling and services.”

“Further to this, we are proud to be launching the Deck & Flooring Expo, a brand that was established in response to an overwhelming call from the decking and flooring sectors in South Africa for an expo-type event that would offer tangible, one-on-one marketing opportunities for exhibitors, from manufacturers right the way to contractors, to connect with one another and their customers,” Jooste remarks. “Flooring and decking occupy most of living, working and play places; it is pervasive, so close to the everyday human experience and people are really drawn to touching and experiencing the materials they will use for their decking and flooring. This is one of the reasons we felt it was essential to create the space for users, makers and installers of beautiful and functional decking and flooring to connect,” he adds.

“We are also pleased to welcome all our new exhibitors, among whom are Geerlings, Harris Sawing Equipment, Nukor, Rhino Band Sawmills and WoodTech Mechatronics, on board WoodEX for Africa 2018 and, hand in hand with our valued exhibitors and partners, look forward to making the show’s fifth instalment a memorable success.”

Rhino Band Sawmills

Rhino Band Sawmills was born from the owner’s need to have a band saw capable of cutting logs for the bee hives he was building. Unable to find a band saw capable of cutting the desired sizes at an affordable price, he decided to build his own. The saw was quickly noticed by passers-by who needed to have their own Rhino 700 and so a new business was born in Potchefstroom with the Rhino 700 Band Saw.

Since these humble beginnings in 2008, the business has grown significantly and saw the owner take on two partners and open a factory. They have improved and fine-tuned the design of the saw and extended their product offering to include the Rhino 950, Horizontal (Multi Head) Resaws and a Multi Rip Board Edger.

The Rhino 700 and Rhino 950 are CE certified and exported to countries in Africa and Europe. Rhino Band Sawmills’ mission is to provide economical high-quality products to the timber industry, whilst conducting business in a professional and ethical manner. This proudly South African company will do their utmost to provide excellent client service and offer on-site training and service of all their products.

Their flagship products are the Rhino 700 and Rhino 950. The Rhino 700 can cut logs with a diameter of 900 mm and a maximum width of cut 800 mm. It is powered by a 23HP Briggs and Stratton petrol engine with an optional 11KW electric motor. The Rhino 950, with its 35HP Briggs and Stratton petrol engine and optional 15KW electric motor, can cut diameters up to 1100 mm and maximum widths of cut 950 mm. Both models have optional extensions, blades, wedges and ramps, and can be adjusted on request.

WoodTech Mechatronics

WoodTech, based in Port Elizabeth, was established in 1998 and has been specializing in the design and manufacture of machinery for 18 years. The company focused on the design and manufacture of 3D laminating presses and CNC nesting routers and, while these machines are primarily made to be used in the woodworking industry, they are used in other industries as well, such as sign writing.

Alongside the CNC nesting router, WoodTech has developed its own fully parametric cabinet and door manufacturing software package which fully integrates with its range of CNC routers. Much of the electronics are designed in-house, making WoodTech a fully mechatronics engineering company.

WoodTech have also developed a world first with its TruCut, which converts most existing panel saws into a single axis CNC panel saw, with guided cutting technology, which is normally only available on large beam saws. With over 400 3D laminating presses on the market and over 100 CNC nesting routers, WoodTech have built up an excellent relationship with its clients, such that it branched out to import woodworking machines for a more holistic service offering.

With experienced and well-qualified engineers and technicians, WoodTech provides more than just machines; the company’s new vision is to provide formulated turnkey solutions and full automation. WoodTech caters to the South African market, sells machinery worldwide and boasts agents across the globe.
